We participated in the VI Belgrade Security Forum “Will Democracy Survive the Global Disorder”. In the event that lasted for 3 days, PAH’s participation was reserved for the last plenary panel just before the closing of the event, which had a great audience and participation of the public. The main theme was security issues in Europe such as migratory phenomena, social movements, cohesion of the region and the continent, etc. The panel on which PAH was invited to participate was called “Can Civil Society Save Democratic Values”? In fact it was the only social movement of all of Europe invited and was with the purpose of illustrating before panellists and hearing an example of organized civil action that can represent a real counterpower and an element of reorganization and social contestation.
We took the opportunity to meet whit the local organization dedicated to promoting the right to the city in Belgrade “Who Builds the City” its main activity is to demand a reconstruction and social redevelopment of Belgrade, being a city that Suffered a lot of damage in the Balkan war, many of the reconstruction projects are being speculative and provoke the gentrification of several neighborhoods of the city without attending basic necessities like housing, sewage, water purification, etc. We made with them a presentation of the PAH of general explanation of the platform to give testimony of the PAH and to strengthen ties with a sister organization.
